Ecology and Evolution of Flora Research Project

The Green Initiative for Humanitarian Aid and Development (GreeniHAD) invites applications from passionate young professionals to participate in a field-based research project titled “Ecology and Evolution of Flora.” The project aims to generate scientific evidence to support biodiversity conservation and sustainable ecosystem management in Nigeria.

Project Location: Cross River State, Nigeria

Project Duration: 3 Months

Available Positions

1. Team Lead (1 Position)

Role Summary:
The Team Lead will provide overall leadership and coordination of the project, ensuring effective implementation of research activities in line with GreeniHAD’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:
– Lead and coordinate all project field activities
– Supervise the Field Officer and Field Assistants
– Ensure adherence to ecological research protocols and ethical standards
– Engage local communities and relevant stakeholders
– Prepare and submit periodic progress reports

Minimum Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in Forestry, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Biology, or related fields (a PhD is an advantage)
– Proven experience in ecological or biodiversity field research
– Strong leadership, coordination, and reporting skills
– Ability to work in forest and rural field environments

2. Field Officer (1 Position)

Role Summary:
The Field Officer will support the Team Lead in coordinating daily field operations and ensuring accurate and reliable data collection.

Key Responsibilities:
– Support planning and execution of field surveys
– Supervise Field Assistants during fieldwork
– Ensure proper documentation and data quality control
– Assist in report preparation

Minimum Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree or HND in Forestry, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related disciplines
– Experience in ecological fieldwork or data collection
– Good communication and organizational skills

3. Field Assistants (3 Positions)

Role Summary:
Field Assistants will support data collection, species identification, sample handling, and logistics under the guidance of the project leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
– Assist with vegetation and flora surveys
– Record field data accurately
– Support sample collection and handling
– Comply with safety and ethical research guidelines

Minimum Qualifications:
– ND, HND, or Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Biology, or related fields (students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply)
– Willingness to work in remote and forested locations
– Basic knowledge of plant ecology is an advantage

General Requirements

– Applicants must be physically fit for fieldwork
– Familiarity with the flora of southern Nigeria is an advantage
– Ability to work effectively in a team and commitment to environmental sustainability
